There are too many approached to creating incredible designs using Island Stone V-Tiles. Hopefully this video provides a solid foundation from which you can creat your own work of art!
Varying tones of grey and blue accented by swirls and sparkles personify the unique look of Alpine, our newest addition to the perfect pebble series. These flat, textured pebbles create a unique atmosphere that reflects the roots of their powerful, cold, rugged natural environment. Everyone envisions something different, but when I see Alpine Pebbles I think of using them to surface a fireplace or a backsplash in a kitchen in a wood cabin. Or maybe a trendy bar where the pure nature of the natural stone creates a desirable juxtaposition to the modern architecture. The stones unique texture and appearance creates a warmth and personality that is hard to pin describe but blatantly obvious upon first glance
If you thought that 2009 was overwhelming with the introduction of a whole new line of pebbles including (Absolute, Celestial, Petite) a beautiful new glass mosaic (Artifact) and two new honed stones (Temple Lava and Tropical White) in new Vtile and Rustic formats, 2010 will knock you off your feet! While we can’t show you any pictures quite yet, be ready for some innovative new designs to be added to our glass line, as well as a new exclusive stone that appears throughout many of our formats. All under taps for now, but if you are a dealer, you will get the first chance to see this product live at the April Coverings in Florida. Until then, don’t tell anyone!
With our distinctive line of tiles and claddings, we pride ourselves on promoting and supporting the most innovative and contemporary approaches to design. Regardless of the impressive hotel, resorts and high end residential designs we have been a part of, David Lindsy, Manager and Lead Designer of Natural Stone & Tile in Arlington, Tennessee, blew us away in his use of Island Stone tiles during a recent design event in Memphis. Using professional models, David took select tile and created wearable clothing that were worn during the event. Combined with displays created using Island Stone glass mosaics, the crowd of designers and architects were enlightened as to just how versatile and creative tile design can be. While the weight constraints of using tile as attire will probably prevent this approach from ever gaining wider acceptance, David should be applauded for opening our eyes to previously unconsidered approaches to designing with tile. If you are looking for someone to offer original and inspirational Island Stone tile design ideas for your next project, David, who’s history of using Island stone tiles and claddings in residential and commercial projects alike, will be sure to offer some great ideas. http://nstone.com/
A recent trip to Portugal opened up my eyes to the versatility and personality that tile offers. Portugal is built from tile. While here in the states, we tend to see tile as appropriate for select environments, in Portugal there is no floor or wall that is left unfinished. Tile driveways, tile retaining walls, tile rooms. Small kitchens and bathrooms, which would be otherwise unnoticeable are transformed by the tile used. While from afar, a Portuguese home might appear very mundane and standardized, it is the tile work that makes each unique and reflects the personality and style of the inhabitants. This is the lesson from which we could learn much. You don’t need to own a mansion to warrant using tile in your home. Tile can turn even the smallest, simplest room into an exclusive environment. A simple subtle colored glass tile design behind your bathroom mirror, the powerful look of Medan pebbles in your kitchen backsplash, rough rustic cladding transforming a fireplace or the comforting texture of a random tile or pebble tile on the bathroom floor. Look around your house, each room is a chance to project your personal design ethic
The demand for green building products continue to gain momentum as people recognize that there are a wide range of product choices that help reduce the adverse effects of new construction.
With the popularity of LEED certification at the forefront, many different approaches to determining a products carbon footprint exist; each offers different approaches and different results. At the core a pebble tile is a very green product. Pebble is a natural stone. The process of building the tile requires nominal manufacturing. Pebble tiles require a very tight weave that is achieved only though the hand placement of stones by individual skilled craftsman. The manufacturing side is on the creation of the mesh and the adhesive, (both are a very small percentage of the products weight or volume) as well as the cutting of the stone. In comparison, other mosaic tiles require significant amounts of energy to create or require adverse chemicals to make colors or surfaces. The adverse side of tiles overall is in the energy related to transportation of the heavy material. A majority of tile is produced oversees and energy is required in transporting from it’s origins to the end customer.
Pebble tile recyclability. Because the composition of the stone is not altered, the only waste created by a pebble tile is in the mesh and adhesive, both very small elements of the product. The stone itself remains the same as it was in its original state when found in nature.
Absolute Pebble tiles defy the randomness generally associated with a natural stone pebble tile. While mother nature might be famous for creating unmatchable symmetries, Island Stone is the first to ever align pebbles in such a perfect geometric configuration. Horizontal, vertical and angle lines created by rows and columns of pebbles will draw your eye in, while the similar radius’s and appearance’s of each individual stone creates a hypnotizing effect. Soften an architectural masterpiece with our natural stone while maintaining a commitment to a sophisticated engineered design. Absolute pebble tiles. Yet another first in Island Stones commitment to the evolution of pebble tile design
